Earn Easy Upgrade Crests by Hanging Out with Friends in Midnight Player Housing

A lucrative new weekly quest in Midnight awards upgrade crests, augment runes, and more, but to obtain the rewards you'll have to participate in Player Housing. Does this break Blizzard's "No Player Power" rule for Player Housing?

Recently added in the Midnight Beta, players can pick up the Housewarming quest in Silvermoon from Vaeli, the dracthyr postmaster. This quest has been datamined as Weekly, but hasn't been confirmed on the Beta as of yet.

To complete the quest, simply host or attend a gathering in a player home with 4 other players. For completing the quest, you'll be rewarded with:

Your choice of:
20x Hero Dawncrest

40x Champion Dawncrest

60x Veteran Dawncrest

500x Voidlight Marl

3x Void-Touched Augment Rune

As well as the base rewards of:
Essence of Lumber

500x Voidlight Marl

25x Community Coupons

There are plenty of weekly quests that reward upgrade crests, so why are we highlighting this one? Well, Blizzard has held that no player power would be associated with Player Housing. So does this break that rule?

The "No Player Power" Rule
Since it's initial announcement way back at the the WoW 20th Anniversary livestream, Blizzard has made it clear that Player Housing is not meant to be a player power feature. In one of the earliest interviews with Taliesin & Evitel in November 2024 , Game Director Ion Hazzikostas makes the clear distinction about how Player Housing differs from similar features like Garrisons in regards to player power.

Game Director Ion HazzikostasWe'll have more to say about Housing down the line. I can say pretty clearly, it's not a player power feature. That's not what we're aiming to do here.

Later in a hands-on Player Housing interview with Game Informer in May 2025, Principal Designer Jesse Kurlancheek reiterates Blizzard's intention with Player Housing in regards to player power.

Principal Designer Jesse KurlancheekWe're still figuring out what game functionality to include, but it’s important we don't associate player power with housing. You won't get a stove that gives you +5 cooking or anything like that. If we do , it’ll be just a stove you can use.

So Does Housewarming Break the "No Player Power" Rule?

Technically, yes it does break the rule. The weekly quest does offer player power via upgrade crests and does ask players to engage with Player Housing to obtain it. But hear me out, it breaks the rule in the softest way possible.

To start, the quest is relatively easy to achieve not even requiring every player to have a house. Just meet up at the party leader's house before starting your Mythic+ run for some quick and easy crests. You don't have to build an elaborate player house, farm lumber, collect the rarest decor, or complete an endeavor; just stop by a location in-game with friends which just so happens to be a Player House.

The quest reward is also fairly minimal in the grand scheme of player power and doesn't offer the highest level of upgrade crests, Myth Dawncrest. Additionally, weekly caps on upgrade crests still exist in Midnight, so you also could get crests from an alternative source to hit the cap. Housewarming completion is not required though it's probably one of the easiest ways to obtain upgrade quests in Midnight.

Finally, I think this does bring in some additional foot traffic to neighborhoods and allows players to showcase their housing masterpieces inspiring other players to ask for future import designs or farm a cool piece of decor. Of course there will be plenty of players that keep their heads down and complete the quest as efficiently as possible; but we know how long Mythic+ groups can take to form, so why not have a look around?

What are your thoughts on this new weekly quest? Is it the slippery slope of player power from Player Housing or an easy way to boost engagement with the new feature?
