Diablo 4 General Manager Rod Fergusson Leaves Blizzard After 5 Years

In a surprise announcement, Diablo 4's General Manager Rod Fergusson has announced his departure from Blizzard/Microsoft after 5 years of managing Diablo on Social Media. In his time overseeing the Diablo Franchise at Blizzard, he has been credited for the release of Diablo II: Resurrected, Diablo Immortal, and, of course, Diablo 4, including the Vessel of Hatred Expansion.

I’m proud of what we’ve built and excited for what’s ahead for Diablo, and for me.<br><br><a href="https://bsky.app/profile/did:plc:7stk6kdxhyemi6fdsk23q3ta/post/3lvvud767y223?ref_src=embed"></a></p>&mdash; Rod Fergusson (<a href="https://bsky.app/profile/did:plc:7stk6kdxhyemi6fdsk23q3ta?ref_src=embed">@rodfergusson.bsky.social</a>) <a href="https://bsky.app/profile/did:plc:7stk6kdxhyemi6fdsk23q3ta/post/3lvvud767y223?ref_src=embed">Aug 8, 2025 at 11:16 AM</a></blockquote><script async src="https://embed.bsky.app/static/embed.js" charset="utf-8"></script>

With a long history of games before his time at Blizzard, including the Gears of War series, the beloved mobile game series Infinity Blade, and BioShock Infinite, Fergusson brought a wealth of experience with him to Blizzard. Within the gaming industry, Fergusson has often been praised for his ability to close projects and get troubled games shipped out to the public. In an interview with Polygon he has expressed his drive and dedication in that regard as a pet peeve.

Rod Fergusson
“ phrase is a pet peeve of mine,” Fergusson said. “I hate the phrase ‘it’s ready when it’s ready.’ When I first came to Blizzard, somebody put a slide up that had that on there, and I went, ‘Nope! You’re deleting that.’ And they were like, ‘What are you talking about?’ I’m like, ‘That’s not how I make video games.’”

Other members of the team are already pouring out their support for the ex-Diablo GM, such as the Director of Social and Content Marketing, Adam Fletcher, as well as Community Manager Marcus Kretz, who both shared a heartfelt message in response:

Marcus Kretz
It's been an honour and a privilege to work with you Rod, your experience, knowledge, and feedback is undeniable.

You will be greatly missed here on the Diablo team. Thank you for your incredible leadership over the years and for the impact you've made on us all. ♥️

Adam Fletcher
Many of my favorite memories of working in games have been with you. Thank you for your mentorship, guidance, and friendship through it all. As we march deeper into Sanctuary in the future, I couldn't be more excited for this Diablo team and the foundation you've helped create for us all.

Thank you again, Rod! 💙

From everyone here at Wowhead, we wish Fergusson all the best for his future endeavors!
